“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” for Dummies

Now that The Force Awakens has been in theatres for a while, and the DVD release date has been confirmed, we can look forward to Rogue One! I cannot wait for this film. Rogue One is the first spin-off movie since Disney bought Lucasfilm. It takes place between Episodes 3 and 4, but runs closer to Episode 4. Also did I mention it comes out this year? Yes that’s right, Rogue One comes out December of 2016!

Rogue One used to be called- Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One by Disney, but they have now changed it to-Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Sorry to confuse you, but I had to mention the name-change by Disney. We’ll just call it Rogue One for short from now on.

Acting and Composing
Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards who directed Monsters (2010), and Godzilla (2014). It stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, and Riz Ahmed. Most of the cast are not big stars or well known, but a lot of them have been in critically acclaimed movies and are great actors.

Alexandre Desplat will compose the score for Rogue One. In 2014 Desplat won an Oscar for composing The Grand Budapest Hotel, so I’m sure he’ll do great.

The Plot

Rogue One will focus on the Rebels trying to steal the plans to the first Death Star, and the movie will feel like a gritty (PG-13) war movie. That’s pretty much all we really know at this point, until the first teaser trailer gets released (hopefully soon?). Darth Vader has also been rumored to appear in the movie (check out MakingStarWars.net for more info on that).

Star Wars Rebels, the popular cartoon on Disney XD, takes place around the same time as Rogue One. Though I don’t think we will see any characters from the cartoon cross over, it wouldn’t surprise me if they did.

Disney is going to have a hard time explaining to people this isn’t Episode 8, but I think they can handle it. I’m hoping we get to see a teaser trailer soon since we haven’t seen much from the movie besides a still image of some of the cast (below). I thought we might get a tease for the Super Bowl, but I’m guessing Disney has other plans.
-When do you think we will get our first teaser trailer for Rogue One?
-Do you like the name Rogue One: A Star Wars Story?
